Williams Sonoma Flagship Store

The historic and narrow infill Bullock & Jones Building on Union Square was renovated and seismically upgraded as the new Williams Sonoma Flagship Store. Steel moment frames were strategically placed to eliminate the existing central row of concrete columns and to create a stepped day lit atrium connecting three floors and the surrounding mezzanine. Tension rods hang the open atrium floor edges from the roof structure to create an open floor plan. The grand staircase was designed with short landing runs to entice visitors to the upper demonstration kitchen. Minimally detailed merchandise displays, strategically placed lighting, and the crème and caramel bronze color palette increase the overall sense of transparency in the space.
